This image weaves in many narratives related to Saints associated with November.
Saint Edmund who was beheaded, protected by a wolf found in a thicket of blackthorn and blackberries. Above him is a depiction of Saint Catherine the Scholar, she was trained in astronomy, logic, arithmetic, grammar, music and rhetoric. She was protected by angels when imprisoned and eventually captured and beheaded, where milk poured from her neck.
